Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 3 Aug. 1911. Strawberry Point column.
August Mattison was born at Pin Oak, Dubuque Co., Iowa, March 28, 1860. At five years of age his parents moved to Independence, where they lived two years. They then moved to Strawberry Point, which place has been his home. His father died Aug. 31, 1895, his mother, July 30, 1897. Of the brothers and sisters, Nelson died in infancy; Lewis died Jan. 16, 1907, while three sisters are still living, Mrs. C. S. Hines, Mrs. J. W. Cook and Mrs. John Huebner. Saturday morning, July 22, Mr. Mattison went to the barn at Jas. Farmer's near Elkader, where he was working, to do the chores. He did not return as soon as was expected and the family searched for him finding him dead, heart failure being the immediate cause of his death. The relatives here were notified and Sunday afternoon the body was laid to rest beside the father and mother in the Strawberry Point cemetery, Rev. Piper officiating.
