Ann Thompson, nee Weir, was born in Northumberland, England, March 29th, 1829, and died June 19th, 1911, at Monona, aged 82 years, 2 months and 21 days. When 11 years old she left England with her parents, for New York City, where she lived till 1853. In 1853 she married Mr. Thompson and came to Iowa, settling on a farm near here. She came to reside in town about two years ago. Five sons and three daughters were born to her, Alexander, James, Matthew, Lawrence and Walter. Matthew died some years ago and James resides at Clear Lake, in this state, the three daughters are Jean, now Mrs. P. H. Griffin, Kate and Anna, now Mrs. Wm. Frohwein. Her funeral service was conducted by Rev. W. Edward King, in the Congregational church, of which she was a good and consistent member.
