Maria Schiff, nee Meier, was born Nov. 22, 1840 in Liedersheim Baden, Germany and died July 9, 1914, at the home of her son Emil near Monona, after an illness of 5 weeks which resulted from a fall on June first.
She was united in marriage to Louis Schiff, January 10, 1861 in Giard. To this union were born 10 children, seven of whom survive. The Father, one son and two daughters preceded her in death. The living children are: Mrs. G. Zuercher of Farmersburg; W.C. Schiff of Scharon, Kansas, Emil and Mrs. H. Trappe, Mrs. Ed Allert of Monona; Mrs. Fran Welch of Mason City, Mrs. H. Drahn of Farmersburg; with 25 grand children and 2 great grand children.
The funeral service was held in the Prairie Church, conducted by the Rev. E.G. Glaeser, who was assisted by Rev. G.F. Kickhoefer, Presiding Elder of Madison, Wis., July 12, and the body laid to rest in the Giard Cemetery.
