Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 26 Oct. 1911. Garber column.
It is with deep sympathy that we chronicle the death of Mrs. Susie E. Wathen, daughter of Joseph and Mary Wathen. She was born in Dubuque county, April 5th, 1873, and died October 20th, 1911, aged 38 years, 6 months and 15 days. On April 7th, 1892, she was joined in matrimony to V. A. Hyde, of Clayton County. To this union nine children were born, five boys and four girls, all living, the youngest a baby girl only seven weeks old. She was a kind wife and loving mother and a loyal friend to all who knew her. In her passing the community is deprived of one of the characters who impressed for good and her teachings will long remain potent in it. Besides her husband and children she leaves to mourn her untimely death two sisters, Mrs. Ella Lines, of South Dakota; Mrs. Lizzie Derby, Columbus, Ohio; and 4 brothers, Henry, of Morrill, Nebr., and John, of Edgewood, and Fred and Bert, of Garber, and also many other relatives and friends. May she rest in peace.
