Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 14 Dec. 1911.
On Tuesday, Dec. 5th, occurred the death of Mrs. Ed. Berns at the early age of 24 years, 6 months and 11 days. Anna Klink was born May 24, 1887, the youngest child of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Klink, Sr., living near Communia.
As the flower in the garden is planted, takes upon its stem one leaf and then another, so from infancy, through the varying and successive stages, to young womanhood, step by step, and year after year, passed by in the life of Anna, the baby and beloved household-pet of this family. Her four sisters and three brothers vied with each other in doing those many acts of kindness and love which form the foundation of a happy family circle. As is the general condition of affairs in families, first one and then another of these sons and daughters left the dear old home, to go with their respective mates to homes of their own, until only Anna was left. But there came a day when she, too, bid farewell to the old home, to go on the matrimonial sea with the dear one who now mourns the loss of a true and loving wife and infant baby.
Only three short years ago, this young woman stood by the side of Ed Berns as his bride and their vow was faithfully kept "until Death would them part," As a white and tender blossom was she cared for, but the storm was too severe and in spite of the physicians' skill and faithful care of a nurse, the flower drooped, but to pass away from earth forever, where it followed the path of the infant daughter to the realms of everlasting life and light.
On Dec. 8th, all that was mortal of Mrs. Anna Berns was taken from her home to the Catholic church and cemetery at Elkport, where a very large concourse of sympathetic friends escorted the remains to their resting place. Rev. Father Minogue conducted the services and spoke very comforting words of the reunion, and pronounced a fine eulogy upon the life of the deceased.
Those of the immediate family who remain to mourn her untimely death are: Ed Berns, the sorrowing husband; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Klink, Sr., of near Communia; Mrs. Louisa Stahl, of Cox Creek township; Louis Klink, of Motor; Mrs. Clara Tieden, of Minnesota; Peter Klink, of Volga township; Mrs. Minnie Greve, of Denver, Colorado; Henry Klink, of near Communia; and Mrs. Anna Hildebrandt, of near Littleport, besides many other relatives and friends.

Note: the way the obit reads, there may have been an infant daughter who died around the same time - although it's also possible that the infant died previously and is referred to as someone who preceded Anna in death … interested researchers should determine which is the correct assumption
