Mrs. Mary Buckley Murphy died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Thos. Phelan, of Elkader, on Thursday, Nov. 2nd, aged about 90 years. She was born in County Clare, Ireland, in March, 1820, and came to America with her husband in 1835. they first located in Maryland, but after a few years came to Clayton county, where she has since resided.
She is survived by seven children: Mrs. Hannah Brady, of Kermit, N.D.; Mrs. Margaret O'Brien, of Ryan, Ia.; Mrs. Ellen Schronan, of Dubuque; Martin Buckley, of Britt, Ia.; Chas. Buckley, of St. Paul, Minn.; Jerry Buckley, of Garnet, Kans., and Mrs. Mary Phelan, of Elkader, together with thirty-four grandchildren and thirty-one great-grandchildren.
The funeral services were held Monday morning in St. Joseph's church, Rev. J. F. Reilly officiating and she was laid to rest in St. Joseph's cemetery.
A large circle of relatives and old neighbors and friends in attendance at the funeral attested to the high regard in which Mrs. Murphy was held by all. A long life rich in years of loving service has closed and she has gone to the eternal life promised by her faith.
