Relatives in this city on Sunday received the sad news, stating that Edward Torrey, a former resident of Millville township, had passed away at his home at Greeley, at the age of 53 years, two months and seven days, after a several weeks' illness. Deceased was born in Millville township, Clayton county, Iowa, on Aug. 17, 1873, where he grew to manhood and was successfully engaged in farming for a number of years. He was married to Miss Mary Moser of Millville township, who preceded him in death about nine years ago. Four years ago he was again married to Miss Marie Philips of Greeley. Of late years he had been a resident of Greeley. Mr. Torrey was a man who stood for righteousness at all times and was held in high regard by all who knew him. He was a kind and true husband, father, son, brother and friend, always ready with heart and hand to help those in need, which won him many warm friends during life. His death is deeply mourned by his wife, three sons, Henry of Guttenberg, Joy and Donald of Greeley; three daughters, Mrs. Hilda Mueller of Guttenberg, Mrs. Nettie Kinyon of Millville and Mrs. Beulah Torrey of Greeley; several grandchildren; his aged father, Henry Torrey of Millville township; two brothers, Milus of Nebraska and Earl of Dubuque; one sister, Mrs. Nettie Watham of Nebraska; one half brother, Fred, of Millville township; three half sisters, Mrs. Mae Miller and Mrs. Barbara Miller of near Colesburg, and Mrs. Lizzie Schrunk of Graham, and numerous other relatives and friends who will sadly miss him. He was a member of the Oddfellow Order. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon. The body was laid to rest in the Bolsinger cemetery near Colesburg. The funeral was very largely attended by relatives and friends from far and Near.
