Elkader Register, Thur., 21 Oct. 1926.

Henry Shaw was born February 12, 1854 in Choskochton county, Ohio, and passed away at his home here Wednesday, Oct. 13, at the age of 72 years, eight months and one day.

On January 11, 1878, he was united in marriage to Sarah Jeaugh and to this union were born 12 children four of whom preceded him in death.

Henry Shaw was one of the early pioneers of Clayton county having immigrated here from Ohio in a covered wagon in the year 1888. He built up a farm here in Clayton county and it has since been his home.

He has always been a kind and loving father and friend. His sterling qualities will be missed by all who knew him. He was very patient to the end, appreciating everything God had given him and pleased and thankful for everything done to ease his suffering.

He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, eight children: Mrs. Henry Meyer, Mrs. Wm. Stendel, Mrs. John Bayless, Mrs. Geo. Buchholtz and Vern of Elkader, Walter of Colesburg, and Oscar and Frank at home. One sister, Mrs. Louis Staub, 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services were held at the Evangelical church last Friday afternoon, interment being made in the East Side cemetery.

The pallbearers were Curt Williamson, Grant Talley, Henry Koehn, Chas. Reick, Chas. Stended and Jake Cook.

A precious one from us is gone
A voice we loved is stilled;
A place is vacant in our home,
which never can be filled
God in his wisdom has recalled,
The boon his love had given,
And though the body slumbers here,
The soul is safe in Heaven.
