Elkader Register, Thur., 15 April 1926. Garnavillo News column.
Anna M. C. Walleser, the fourth eldest child of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Kuenzel was born January 10, 1858. She grew to womanhood in our midst and in the early eighties was united in marriage to Mr. Jos. H. Walleser of this place. This union was blessed with two daughters, Roma and Ina. During the epidemic at the time of the World War, Mrs. Roma responded to the call for nurses in her home city, Davenport. Her devotions to her duties involved overwork and insufficient rest and when she was taken with the disease, her resistance proved inadequate. Sacrifices were not made on battle fields only. Mr. Walleser was in the hardware business in Garnavillo for many years. After Roma's marriage the family joined her at Davenport. Mrs. Walleser had been in good health until recently when an attack of pleurisy became persistent. Although she was thought to be improving, a sudden turn for the worse brought death speedily on Thursday, April 1st. She leaves her husband, daughter Ina, three brothers, Herman of this place, Henry of Dubuque, and Edward of Davenport; two sisters, Mrs. Fred Harberg of this place and Miss Marie Kuenzel of Davenport. Funeral arrangements were held at the home in Davenport and the body was then brought here to the home of her brother H. C. Kuenzel Saturday morning. In the afternoon Rev. C. Meyn conducted the brief services at the house and at the grave. Interment was made in the new cemetery.
