John Hartin Latham was born at St. John's, New Brunswick, Canada, May 26th, 1851. When a child he moved with his parents to Clayton county, Iowa. Then when a young man he moved with his parents to Webster City, Iowa. He was married to Lillie Schlacht June 24th, 1889, at Rockwell City, Iowa. She died in April 1907. After his wife's death he moved to Volga City, Iowa, where he engaged in the meat business for several years. On the 5th day of December, 1916, he was married to Elizabeth Schultz* of Volga City, Iowa. She died June, 1920. He has since lived at his present home here. He has been in failing health for the past year .which resulted in his death March 24, 1926. He has two living brothers, G. W. Latham of Delphos, Kansas, and Homer Latham of Talala, Oklahoma; three brothers and three sisters have preceded him in death. He leaves a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Friday from the Presbyterian church. Rev. W. H. Smith of New Albia preached the sermon, Rev. Shindledecker assisted at the services. Burial was made in Hill Crest cemetery.
