Joseph Uehle, one of this communities highly respected long-time residents, passed away at his home in Guttenberg on Monday evening at 8:40 o'clock, after a short illness at the age of 74 years and 10 days. Deceased was born in Mauren, Germany, on March 12, 1852. When thirteen years of age he came to America with his parents and settled in Guttenberg, Iowa. For a time he resided on a farm in Jefferson township. On February 26, 1878, he was united in marriage with Miss Bernadina Eilers at Guttenberg, Iowa. After their marriage the couple resided at Guttenberg for five years, going from here to Woodbury county, Iowa, where they settled on a farm and where they lived for eighteen years, when they returned to Guttenberg to again make their home, and where deceased spent the remainder of his life. Mr. Uehle was an ambitious man during his entire life and was a man of kind and loving disposition. He was held in high regard by all in this community. Mr. Uehle was a faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic church here and of the Sacred Heart and M.P.S. societies. His death is deeply mourned by his widow, one adopted daughter, Mrs. Charles Pelzer of Dubuque, one brother, Jacob Uehle of Danburg, Ia., two sisters, Mrs. Rosa Mohrhau_er and Mrs. Anna Sauvning of Danburg, Ia., and many other relatives and friends who will all sadly miss this good and true man. Funeral services were held at St. Mary's Catholic church in this city this (Thursday) morning, Rev. Joseph Dupont officiating. Interment was made in Mt. Olivet cemetery. The funeral was largely attended.
