James Wesley Garretson, one of Guttenberg's long-time residents passed away very suddenly of apoplexy at his home in this city on Thursday evening, March 18, 1926, shortly after seven o'clock at the age of 66 years. Deceased was born on a farm near Strawberry Point, Iowa, on Mar. 18, 1860. On November 11, 18__, he was united in marriage with Miss Hattie Steele, at Edgewood, Iowa. After this marriage the couple settled on a farm near Edgewood, where they lived about ten years, thence coming to Guttenberg to reside, where the deceased spent the remainder of his life. For a time Mr. Garretson made his home at Cedar Falls, Iowa, and in the state of Michigan. Mr. Garretson was a man of a pleasing personality which won for him many friends during life and he was a kind and true husband, father and friend. On last Thursday evening he arrived home at about six o'clock from down town and soon after became ill, passing away shortly after seven o'clock the same evening. His death is deeply mourned by his widow, one son, Elwood of Mentor, Minn., one daughter, Mrs. L. S. Tireman of Postville, Iowa; three grandchildren, one brother and numerous other relatives and friends, who will all sadly miss him. Funeral services were held at his late residence in this city on Sunday afternoon, Rev. D. D. Welch of the M.E. church officiating. The body was laid to rest in the city cemetery. The funeral was largely attended.
