Elkader Register, Thur., 4 Mar. 1926.

Mrs. Mary Horsch, nee Strankman, a long time resident of Guttenberg, peacefully passed away at her home in this city on last Thursday evening, Feb. 25, at 6:15 o'clock, at the age of 73 years, 8 months and 20 days. Mrs. Horsch was born in Miellenkam, Hanover, Germany, on June 5, 1852, where her childhood days were spent. In the year 1871 she came to America and settled at Guttenberg, Iowa, where the remainder of her Christian life was spent. On April 23rd she was married here to Mr. William Horsch, who preceded her in death on June 24, 1908. During her illness she was a patient sufferer, and all that loving hands could do and medical aid could suggest was done to save her life, but all failed when the Angel of Death called her to the Great Beyond. She is survived by one brother, William Strankman, of Grand Junction, Colorado, a number of nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran church in this city on Sunday afternoon, Rev. Emil Lehne officiating. The body was laid to rest in the city cemetery. Relatives and friends from far and near were in attendance at the funeral.

---- ---- ----

Guttenberg Press, Thur., 4 Mar. 1926.

Mrs. Marie Horsch is no more; peacefully she has passed away last Thursday, Feb. 25, at :00 o'clock, attaining the ripe age of 73 years, 8 months and 20 days.

Mrs. Horsch was born in Hanover, Germany, the 5th of June, 1852. At the age of 18, she immigrated to this country and settled in our beautiful town, where she spent all her life, and where on the above mentioned date she passed away. April 23, 1874, she was married to Mr. William Horsch, whom death removed from her side 30 years later. No issue resulted from this union.

The deceased was a person of strict habits and model living; in her conversation she ever wanted to give credit to every man, woman, and child; slander was the most obnoxious practice to her and she studiously avoided it. Her church was ever dear to her; in the services she found that which satisfied her longing, strengthened her faith, deepened her love, anchored her hope, and kindled the ardent desire to be where her Savior was. St. John's Ev. Lutheran church laments the loss of a faithful, staunch member. How the good, the pure, the noble are ever missed; but their character, their pure lives are the most enduring moments which they leave behind and which time itself cannot efface.

Now death has plied his gloomy labors and taken hence the shell of dust; but hope whispers the transporting sentence: Though dead - yet she lives, lives in a better, purer world.

She leaves an only brother of her near relatives, Mr. Wm. Straukmann, of Grand Junction, Colo., also three nieces, and other distant kin.

Requiescat In Pace.
