Mrs. Joseph Meyer (nee Margaret Winch), a life long highly respected resident of Clayton county, passed away at her home in Garber on last Thursday morning after a long illness and being almost fifty-eight years of age when the Angel of Death called her to the Great Beyond. Deceased was born on a farm in Volga township in March, 1868. She was married to Mr. Joseph Meyer and for many years she lived on a farm in Volga township, but of late years has been a resident of Garber. Mrs. Meyer was well known here and she was loved by all who had the pleasure of making her acquaintance. Her husband, one son, Benjamin Meyer, of Volga township, five daughters, Mrs. Maggie McLane and Mrs. Alma Hall of near Garber, Mrs. Elsie Finnegan and Mrs. Josephine Noack of near Osterdock and Mrs. Genevieve Uriell of Read township; two brothers, Louis and Fred Winch of near Littleport; one sister, Mrs. Otto Schmelzer of Garnavillo; a number of grandchildren; four half-brothers, Ernest, William, Henry and Edward Winch; three half-sisters, Mrs. Selma Thein, Mrs. Melinda Thein and Mrs. Lena Wittman, and many other relatives and friends, deeply mourn the untimely departure of this worthy wife, mother, sister and friend. She was a step-daughter of Mrs. Carl Blume of Guttenberg. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Franke of Elkader, at the Lutheran church at Garber on Sunday afternoon. The body was laid to rest in the Mt. Harmony cemetery at Garber. The funeral was very largely attended by relatives and friends from far and near, which showed that deceased was held in high esteem by all who knew her.
