Clayton County Register, Thur., 15 Dec. 1932.

CLAYTON: Tuesday evening news was received of the tragic death of Leslie Kempter, age 16. He was a resident of this community until a few months ago. Tuesday morning Leslie and Frank Mullin, age 25, were crossing a stretch of ice on the Mississippi, when it gave way and both were drowned. The accident occurred near Sabula. The funeral was held Friday at Sabula. Leslie Kempter is a son of Mrs. Clarence Fry of this city.

(Note: Sabula is located in Jackson Co., Iowa. WPA records record Leslie Kempter, 1915 - 1932, as buried in Evergreen Cemetery, in Jackson County. Frank Mullin, in this article, is also reported as Charles Mullen in a similar article reporting this accident that appears in the Burlington Hawk-Eye of Wed. 7 Dec. 1932. Nothing more could be found on Charles/Frank Mullin/Mullen. The 1920 Federal Census of Sabula, Union Twp., Jackson Co., Iowa, shows:

Fay Kempter, 26, born Iowa. Head. His parents both born in Iowa.
Clara Kempter, 28. Wife.
Laverna Kempter, 5. Dau.
Leslie Kempter, 4 1/12. Son.)
Mary Ellen Kempter, 2 1/12. Dau.)
