The cause of death and duration is blank in the records.

Additional info. for him has been added in the past couple of months, in a bio written by Carl Inwaldson, who researches the 21st Iowa. I've put the link to the bio below. You'll need to scroll the page to his bio.

You are likely correct about his cause of death, that and his advanced age.
