In Response To: Valiquet, John / Valiguish, S. died 1883 (Reid R. Johnson)

Hi Sharyl,
Does the listing for Valiquist, S. / Valiquet, John in CCDR Bk I pg 30 list a cause of death? John B. Valiquet, Company D, 21st Iowa would probably have been suffering from tertiary syphilis by 1880 or so, as he was discharged from the service for having secondary syphilis in 1865. It was the most common cause of insanity in the nineteenth century.
Thank you, Eric
