Mrs. Caroline Hilderbrandt (sic) was born January 27, 1851, in Germany. The following year she came to America with her parents, who, after landing in New York, came directly to Guttenberg, Iowa.

In the year 1870, she was united in marriage to Charles Miller. Seven children were born to this union: Mrs. Rees D. Jones of Chicago; Charles, John, William and Fred Miller of Chicago; Mrs. Peter Klink of Chicago, and Henry Miller of Omaha, Nebr. In the year 1882 her husband departed this life. In the year 1885 she was again united in marriage to Wm. Hilderbrandt (sic). Five children were born to this union. Two have preceded her in death. The three living are: Mrs. Carrie Stahl of Giard, Iowa; Mrs. John Thein of Communia and Adolph Hilderbrandt of Edgewood.

Mrs. Hilderbrandt spent nearly her entire life in Clayton county. Forty-five years were spent on the farm near Littleport. After retiring from the farm she made her home in Elkader. While a resident of this place she became a member of the Frauen Verein. Mrs. Hilderbrandt had been afflicted with diabetes for over 15 years. For the past 13 years she has been making her home with the different children. For the last three months she has been in the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Thein, where she died Monday afternoon, Nov. 21st.

Besides the above named children she leaves to mourn her departure a brother, Wm. Dahling, Elkader; 22 grandchildren, and a large number of friends.

The deceased reached the age of 81 years, 10 months and 25 days.

Funeral services were held last Wednesday afternoon in the Evangelical church and interment was made in the East Side cemetery, the Rev. Paul Kitterer officiating.
