LeRoy Hansel, son of Phillip E. Hansel and wife, Lillie Dinges, born January 7, 1895, at Mallory township, Iowa, and died at Sacred Heart hospital Oct. 4th about 7:00 p.m., a few hours after being crushed by rock, caused by a premature explosion of dynamite.

In the year 1927 he was married to Loria Willie. Four children were born to this union, Charlie, James, Letha and Donald. The eldest child is four. He leaves to mourn his early departure his wife, the above named children, his parents, and seven brothers and five sisters. His brothers and sisters at home are: Eva, Lawrence, Josephine, and Ralph and his wife, who make their home with their parents. Adam, Irwin and Albert are employed near Edgewood; Mrs. Ethel Penhollow at Millville; Mrs. Pearl Beldon near Volga City; Mrs. Jessie Funk at Colesburg; and Elmer, of Doliver, Iowa.

Services wee held at the Garber church with interment in Mt. Harmony cemetery, Rev. P. Kitterer officiating. The deceased was a member of the American Legion.

This community was shocked Tuesday evening, Oct. 4th, when word was received that LeRoy Hansel, better known as "Tat", was seriously injured in an accidental dynamite explosion, where he was working for the Interstate Construction Co. at West Point, Iowa. He was rushed to the Sacred Heart hospital at Ft. Madison, Ia., where it was found he had suffered a broken arm, a broken leg and a serious skull fracture. He never regained consciousness and died at 7:30 the same evening, 3 1/2 hours after the accident.

Mr. Hansel had been working at West Point since early in the spring and came home about once a month to visit his family, the last visit being Sept. 25th. He worked for the construction company for several years and on June 22, 1929, he suffered a broken leg by a falling rock, which left him slightly lame.

William LeRoy Hansel, eldest son of Phillip and Lillian (nee Dingus) Hansel, was born Jan. 7, 1896, at Garber, Iowa, Volga township, Clayton County, and died Oct. 4, 1932, reaching the age of 36 years, eight months and 27 days.

On July 26, 1918, he enlisted at Elkader for service in the U.S. Army. He received training as a private in Camp Gordon, Ga. He was honorably discharged Dec. 7, 1918.

Nov. 19, 1927, he was united in holy wedlock to Miss Laura Willie of Elkport. To this union four children were born, Carl four years, James three, Anita 20 months and Donald one week.

His aged father and mother, five sisters, Mrs. Ethel Pennhollow, of Millville, Mrs. Pearl Belton of Volga City, Mrs. Jessie Funk of Colesburg and Eva and Josephine at home; seven brothers, Elmer of Doliver, Iowa, Ralph of Colesburg, Ervin and Adam of Edgewood, Albert of Elkport, Emery of Millville, Lawrence of Colesburg; and also a host of other relatives and friends mourn his passing.

The body was brought to St. John Evangelical church in Garber, from which services were conducted, Friday, Oct. 7, 1932, at 2:00 p.m. by Rev. Paul Kitterer of Elkader. Interment was made in Mt. Harmony cemetery, where his Legion brothers took charge of the services and sounded taps for their departed comrade.

Pall bearers were: Ray Zearley, John Dannenbring, Thor Fisko, Russell Ackerman, Charlie Schute and Ray Strube.
