Mathilda Gaulke was born in Prairie du Chien, Wis., Aug. 29, 1863, and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ewald Becker, Volga City, Iowa, after an illness of four months, at the age of 69 years, one month and 13 days.
She was married to Henry Kuempel of Clayton, Iowa, on June 2, 1884. To this union one daughter, Lela, was born. Her husband died Feb. 23, 1902.
On Oct. 12, 1904, she was married to Fred Eidams of Mederville. The first years of her married life were spent in Volga and Strawberry Point and for the past several years she lived at Mederville.
On June 21st of this year she suffered a stroke from which she never recovered On July 7th, she was brought to the home of her daughter, where she was cared for. Sept. 29th she suffered two more strokes, from which she never rallied, passing away October 12, on their wedding anniversary.
She leaves to mourn besides her husband, Fred Eidams, of Mederville, one daughter, Lela Becker of Volga, three grandchildren, Leo and Dorothy Becker, Volga; Vallie Becker, Susanville, Calif.; one great-grandson, Keith, of California; three sisters, Mrs. Hannah Behling and Mrs. Ida Coolidge of La Crosse, Wis., and Mrs. Emma Wacker, Mederville; three brothers, John and Will Gaulke, Prairie du Chien, Wis., and Herman Gaulke, Denver, Colo., besides several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
The funeral was held from the home of her daughter in Volga with Rev. W. P. Sandrock, pastor of the Lutheran church of Arlington, officiating. Two beautiful selections were rendered by Mrs. Sandrock, Mrs. Me_he and Miss Gertrude Eckheart of Arlington.
The casket was borne by Chas. Lange, A. B. Albrecht, Chas. Hackett and Harry Kramer of Mederville and H. C. Andreas and Chas. Stahl of Volga.
