Guy Eugene Gould was born June 20, 1930, in Marengo, Iowa, the son of Guy and Emiline (Zimmerman) Gould. He was baptized in the Presbyterian Church, Marengo.

Gene, as he was known by family and friend, lived his early years in Iowa County. He attended country school and later graduated from Blairstown High School in 1948. Gene was confirmed at St. John's Lutheran church in Sumner on June 3, 1951. He married Ruth Helen Lang on January 1, 1951. Four children were born to this union.

In 1957, the family moved to the Littleport area when Gene was engaged in farming until his retirement in 1995.

Gene was a real "people" person - serving his community as a member of the Clayton County Extension Council, Church Council, Union Cemetery Board, Littleport Rec Club, Littleport Fire Department and First Responders.

His biggest joy was time spent with his family. He enjoyed traveling and was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing and hunting, especially deer hunting each year with the usual group.

A highlight each year was time spent at the Clayton County Fair. But, above all, Gene's favorite pastime was talking with people, whether he knew them or not. He was well-known for his good-natured harassment of everyone, young and old alike.

On September 17, 2004, Gene passed away peacefully in his home after a lengthy illness.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Helen (Lang) Gould, Edgewood, children David (Terri) Gould, Strawberry Point, Diane (Mike) McClintock,, Elkader, Terry (Marlene) Gould, Strawberry Point, Tim (Lisa) Gould, Elkader; six grandchildren, Adam Gould, Aaron Gould, Adriane McClintock, Ryan McClintock, Brent Gould and Weslee Gould; one step-grandson, Collin White, and one sister, Genevieve Martin, Eufula, Okla.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Arthur Gould.
