Died.
Moody – At his home in the Moody Settlement near McGregor, IA Sunday morning, Dec 30th, 1900 of apoplexy, James Moody, aged 79 years, 8 months, 5 days.
Deceased was a native of Carroll County Ohio, where he was born April 25, 1821 and was the eldest of a family of fourteen children. Twelve of whom lived in the vicinity of McGregor with the pioneer father and mother.
The subject of this notice was twice married. His first wife being a Miss Mary Peterson to whom he was married in Ohio, Mar 22nd 1849. Five Children were born to this marriage, four of whom survive.
Mrs. Moody died and the widower married Mrs. Hannah Gween. March 12, 1868. Only one child was born of this union and it died in infancy.
In 1854, he moved from Ohio west, coming directly to Mendon township, where he took up land on the hill near where his father and brothers had established themselves.
He was a well known character in McGregor years ago, but of late has been in comparatively poor health. He leaves two sons Gamel???? Of Belmond, Wright Cty.; Mahlon, residence unknown; and 2 daughters Mrs E. Stevens of Hull; and Mrs. Albaugh of Keokuk. The funeral took place Tuesday at the late home of deceased, services being conducted by Rev. M.H. Smith of this city, in presence of a large company of sympathing friends of the family.
