Joseph William Gordon, son of Joseph and Mary Gordon, was born in Clinton county, Iowa, and died at a hospital in Iowa City, May 25, 1932, aged 68 years, three months and 10 days.

His illness was of about two months duration. Failing to be helped here, he was taken to Iowa City, May 18, and placed in a hospital under the care of specialists, but his illness was of so serious a nature that he could not recover.

March 25, 1885, he was united in marriage to Dora Hines at Elkader. To this union five children were born: Mrs. Maude Dillon of Manchester, Mrs. Eva Sturm of Osborne, Ira, living on a place joining his father's farm, Elmer, who has been living with his parents carrying on the farm work, and Thomas, who died in early childhood.

His wife, four of the above named children, a sister, Mrs. Swilda Tru_ir of Taft, Texas, six grandchildren and numerous relatives, friends and neighbors will mourn his death. He was at one time associated with the Farmers Telephone company, holding the office of director for some time.

He was a member of the Pleasant Grove Christian church since that church was organized about 35 years ago.

The funeral was held at the Pleasant Grove church Saturday, May 28, services being conducted by Rev. T. R. Gray of Edgewood.

Mesdames James Sauerbry and John Knight and Vera Knight sang two hymns.

The pall bearers were Charles Easton, John Olinger, Warren Pugh, Ernest Kellogg, Pete Wolf and Duncan McTaggart.

Burial was made in the Ross cemetery in Cox Creek.
