Funeral services of E. H. Hoag were held at the M.E. church, Sunday afternoon, conducted by the pastor, Rev. T. J. Elwick. The pall bearers were: Dr. H. M. Eaton, Alex Porter, Dr. F. H. Howard, L. W. Preston, H. A. Axtell and C. W. Newberry.
Interment took place in the local cemetery The A.F. & A.M. had charge of the services at the grave.
Edward Hiram Hoag was born at Cherry Creek, N.Y., Dec. 26, 1851, coming with his parents at the age of ten years to Strawberry Point where his home has been ever since till the time of his death, April 29, 1932, at the ripe old age of over eighty years. He was married to Rebecca Thompson, Nov. 7, 1878. To this union three children were born, Mrs. Mildred Sanders, Minneapolis, Minn., Mrs. Mae Chidester of Tacoma, Wash., and Miss Frances R. Hoag, who preceded him in death, August 30, 1928. He is survived by his wife and two daughters. Mr. Hoag was the son of a clergyman and was interested and active in church life in his earlier days. He was a member of the Masonic Order for nearly fifty-four years. He was active in business and public affairs, teaching school when a young man, having attended the public schools and the State University at Iowa City. He acted in a public capacity as deputy postmaster, assessor, town clerk, etc., and for a time was in the printing office with Jas. Newberry. He was a registered pharmacist and was in the drug business for twenty-one years. He was a man highly esteemed by his neighbors and fellow citizens and a friend to both young and old. His sprightly step and genial smile are missed by those who knew him.
