Strawberry Point: Funeral services of C. C. Brandenburg was held at the M.E. church Wednesday afternoon conducted by the pastor, Rev. T. J. Elwick. The pall bearers were: Chas. Easton, E. E. Bartlett, C. B. Moser, C. W. Buls, A. J. Stamp, B. J. Stamp, Geo. Halsted and R. Moser. Interment took place in the Strawberry Point cemetery.

Clinton C. Brandenburg, son of Aaron and Ellen Jane Brandenburg, was born in Clinton county, Ohio, April 29, 1851.

When about two years old, he moved with his parents to Bloomington, McClean county, Illinois. When about fourteen years old he united with the Church of Christ at West Twin Grove and believed in that faith to the end.

In February, 1870, he came to Iowa and settled on a farm north of Strawberry Point in Sperry township. On October 29, 1876, he was united in marriage to Miss Henrietta Maxwell. To this union seven children were born. Three died in infancy: Frances Pleasant, when nine years old and Leah Etta Otterback at the age of twenty-six.

There remain to mourn his departure his wife and companion, two daughters, Mrs. Ollie Whetstone of Strawberry Point and Mrs. Lucina Ellen Weyant of Edgewood. His three grandchildren were his pride, Mrs. Clark Beagle, Oskaloosa, Iowa; Velma Whetstone of Strawberry Point and Fern Weyant of Edgewood. Two sisters also cherish his memory, Mrs. Eva Walters of Indianola, Iowa, and Mrs. Luelda Chisem of Bloomington, Illinois.

Beside the nieces and nephews many, many friends grieve his departure. He was a great lover of his home and family and took keen interest in all their duties and cares.

The first Sunday school in his neighborhood was started in his home and held each Sabbath until the gathering crowd was to large, and next was held in the school house near them. Later he was one of the organizers of the Pleasant Grove church, where he acted in the capacity of Elder, also choir leader and teacher of the Young People class.

In January, 1913, they moved to Strawberry Point to the present home. There being no church here for his denomination, but wishing to be affiliated with church service and work he united with the Methodist church, which he attended when health permitted.

For the past year and a half his health has been steadily declining, and a week ago he was taken seriously ill with neuralgia of the heart. Yet each day in spite of intense suffering he arose and went about his accustomed tasks, with the same cheerful optimism that he had displayed through life. The end came, April 23, 1932, when he died at the ripe old age of eighty years, eleven months and twenty days.

He has lived his life among us and by his own heroic efforts made himself what he was, and the memory of his deeds and advice will live with us always. Whenever sorrow, worry or trouble came to his neighbors, he did his bit to lighten the load, and old and young went to him for his wise words of council and advice. He met all with a kind, encouraging word and his pleasant smile. He was ever ready with a joke to lighten pain or gloom.

The announcement of his death brought tears of affectionate sorrow from many eyes and words fail to express their deep grief and regard. "To live in the hearts of those we leave behind is not to die."
