Clayton County Register, Thur., 28 Apr. 1932.
Michael M. Dinan of Littleport died Thursday evening, April 14th, here in Elkader, after an illness of about two weeks, surrounded by his family, brothers and sisters.
He was born, May 2, 1874, in Cox Creek township, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Dinan, in Cox Creek township in the Dinan homestead, where he resided all his life. In the years spent here he built a modern and comfortable home, added more land and in general improved the place to its present state.
On the 24th day of November, 1903, he was married in Sacred Heart church in Cox Creek to Miss Margaret Henry, a successful teacher in this county, and to them eleven children were born, who with the widow survive, as follows: Joseph M., of West Union; Margaret M. (Mrs. John Whittle) of Arlington; Charlotte M., Richard H., John L., Robert E., Ruth A., Catherine, Eileen Anne, Marg. Virginia and Helen at home and one grandchild, Jo Anne Whittle, Arlington.
Mr. Dinan was a prosperous and well to do farmer; a man of strong convictions, competent and faithful in the discharge of his duties. His sudden passing is the occasion for grief for a large circle of devoted friends who sincerely sympathize with his bereaved family. Mere words seem futile in trying to express the esteem in which he was held by all who knew him. He never failed his church, his family, his friends or his community. When there was work to be done for a worthy cause he was always ready to do it.
He was president of the Littleport commission company for the last twenty years, or since its start, active in the organization of the Littleport creamery company and other community enterprises.
Casket-bearers were: John J. Wiley, Henry Dahling, Wm. J. Brich, Louis Winch, Ray Hughes and John Farrell.
