At the Ernest Kellogg home in Cox Creek township, April 4, 1932, occurred the death of Mrs. Anna Hetzel Handel. Seven and one half weeks ago Mrs. Handel suffered a broken hip, resulting from a fall. Since that time she has gradually failed in health until Tuesday morning when death released her from her suffering.
Anna Hetzel was born in Germany November 3, 1847, where she received her early education She came to this country in 1868, residing in Ohio, until her marriage to Paul Handel at Maquoketa, Jan. 10, 1870. They then moved to a farm in Fayette county, where they lived for 16 years, when they moved to a farm in Cox Creek township. Since Mr. Handel's death 16 years ago, she has made her home with her daughters, Mrs. Lizzie Kellogg, Mrs. Pauline Gamm and Mrs. Mary Streicher. Three children born to Mr. and Mrs. Handel died in childhood, Chris, George and Paul.
Those living who mourn for her are Mrs. Lizzie Kellogg and Will Handel of Cox Creek township, John Handel of Marshalltown, Mrs. Pauline Gamm and Mrs. Mary Streicher of near Arlington.
Mrs. Handel was a member of the Lutheran church. Her funeral was held April 6th, at the Lutheran church in Strawberry Point, the minister of that church, Rev. Jahr, officiating. Burial was made in the Strawberry Point cemetery.
