VOLGA CITY: Funeral services were held for Mrs. Evelyn Larson last Tuesday at noon, from the home here to the Presbyterian church at Wadena at 2:00 o'clock. The Rev. G. Gunsten of Clermont officiated at the service and at the Highland Lutheran cemetery, where interment was made.
On June 13, 1863, in Norway, Mary Evelyn came to gladden the home of Hance Martin and Jennie Peterson, being one of a family of eight children. At the age of 18 years she braved the deep waters of the ocean to America. Here on the 29th of June, 1882, she was united in the bonds of holy matrimony to Charles Larson. The family was blessed with six children, five sons and one daughter. Though a happy union, they experienced many trials, hardships and struggles, as only pioneers knew.
The family lived in several places in Iowa, the last being near Wadena, where their modern home stands as a monument of their ambitions and achievements. Here some of the very unhappy events of her life took place, when she was deprived of an infant son and her life's companion Nov. 9, 1923 This proved a great loss, but her faith grew stronger and she bore many afflictions, still devoting her time and care to those still with her. She was a member of the Norwegian Lutheran church. Through this faith she remained loyal to her God and church, by which her children grew up under the influence of a Christian home.
In her declining years she had made her home with her children, making new acquaintances, which proved a blessing to those who knew her.
She died March 6, 1932, at the home of her daughter. She leaves to mourn her passing, Leonard of Volga; Herman, of Wadena; Mrs. Lester Keiholtz, of Volga; Henry, of Arlington; Edward, of Volga; 12 grandchildren, a host of friends and many old neighbors.
