Clayton County Register, Thur., 17 Mar. 1932. Monona column.
Funeral services for William G. Bernhard, aged 79, were held Thursday afternoon at 1:45 from the home and 2 o'clock from the First Methodist church, Rev. L. H. Joslin officiating, with burial in the Giard cemetery. Surviving are one son, Reuben W. Bernhard, near Giard, and two granddaughters and four sisters; Miss Louisa Bernhard, who kept house for him for many years, since the death of his wife; Mrs. Elizabeth Weithorn, and Mrs. Charles Hupfer of Monona, and Mrs. Carrie Good of Plainfield, Ia. One brother, John Bernhard, preceded him in death. Mr. Bernhard was an honest, industrious farmer, beloved by all who knew him. The greater part of his life was spent on the farm and the later years of his life were spent in Monona. This illness which caused his death, was the first time he had ever been sick. The quiet, sensible life he lived was the secret of his longevity. A good father and good brother has gone and Monona has lost a good citizen. The sympathy of the community is extended the family.
