Charley Lahrs died in his home in Read township, Wednesday, Mar. 2nd. He was born Sept. 18, 1873, in Germany. Only one year old, his parents left the old country and emigrated to America, where they settled first in Clayton Center. On March 22, 1900, he was married to Wilhelmine Glawe, and the couple resided in Read township. Four children were born to this union, all of whom survive the deceased, who reached the age of 58 years, five months and 13 days. Those mourning for him are his wife, Mrs. Charley Lahrs, nee Glawe; four children, Hilda, married to Emil Schuette; Elmer Lahrs; Alice, married to Fred Schuette; Esther, married to Verny Bahls; his mother Mrs. Rieke Lahrs, at Postville; three sisters, Mrs. August Wilke, Read township; Mrs. Charley Breitsprecher, Read township; Mrs. Julius Heinz, Postville; and two brothers, Fred Lahrs and John Lahrs, both of Read township.
Besides the relatives, many of his neighbors and old friends attended the funeral, which was held at the Lutheran Zion's church at Clayton Center on March 4th and interment was made in the new cemetery there, the Rev. Berthold F. Korte officiating.
