Clayton County Register, Thur., 10 March 1932.

Amos Wilson Hughes, well known citizen of Littleport, died at his home Friday morning, March 4th, at 4:30 o'clock, after an illness caused by an accidental fall that confined him to his bed for 14 weeks.

Mr. Hughes, a son of James and Margaret (Stevens) Hughes, was born in Lycoming county, Penn., April 4th, 1849. He was one of a family of twelve children, nine preceding him in death. He has been a resident of Clayton county for the last 77 years. For many years he was engaged in the grain, feed and coal business and the buying and shipping of livestock at Littleport. A loyal and upright citizen, who has secured a place in popular esteem.

Mr. Hughes was united in marriage to Margaret Isabelle Marshall in May, 1881, who preceded him in death Aug. 25, 1931.

Mr. Hughes reached the age of 82 years, eleven months. He is survived by two sons, Warren, residing on a farm near Littleport, and Ray, at home; three grandchildren, Helen, Idabelle, and Delbert Hughes; also one sister, Mrs. Jane McKinnis of near Strawberry Point, and one brother, Burros, of Littleport.
