Funeral services for Steve Parker were held Wednesday, September 4, 1985 at 10:30 a.m., St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Monona, with Pastor Harold O. Ward officiating. Pallbearers were Carl Houg Sr., Kenneth Henkes, Norbert Holly, Vern Haberichter, Marlyn Nuehring, and Alvin Baumbach. Burial was in the Garnavillo Cemetery. Schultz's Funeral Home was in charge of services.
Steve Francis Parker was born September 28, 1913 at Garber, Iowa. He was the son of Frank and Rilla Parker. He was baptized and later confirmed on March 6, 1938 at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church, Farmersburg, Ia., by Rev. H. M. Adix. His education was received in the rural schools near Garber and the Guttenberg Public School. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Monona, the Leslie H. Smith Unit 519 of the American Legion. He served three years in WWII. On June 9, 1938 Steve was united in marriage to Opal M. Harberg at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Garnavillo, by Rev. M. J. Harder. To this union one son was born, he died at birth on May 30, 1941. They adopted a son Edward Lee and a daughter Mary Kay. He was the Sinclair Bulk Agent from 1941 to 1971 and he also built the Monona Motel and Sinclair Service Station. He served on the Monona Town Council for two terms, on the church council for one year. He also drove for his son on the rock and lime truck. He died Sunday, September 1, 1985 at his home from a sudden illness.
Preceding in death were his infant son, his parents, and one brother Burton.
Surviving are his wife Opal; his son Edward and wife Diane of Monona, his daughter Mary Kay Wessel and husband William of Missoula, Montana; his two grandchildren Nicole Lee and Anthony Dean Parker; His sister Helen Arthur of Edgewood, Iowa.
