Elkader Register, Tur., 11 July 1901. Giard column.
Mrs. W. J. Allert, aged 28 years, passed away at their family residence, Tuesday evening, July 2nd, after an illness of two weeks with blood poison. How often the words, "Death is sad at best," are repeated and how true, and yet when the cold hand of death steps in and claims for its victim a young wife and mother, it is doubly sad. While it was quite generally known that she was in a critical condition, those who watched over her thought the crisis had passed, and that she was on a fair road to recovery and it was not surmised by those nearest her that death was so close at hand.
Celia Yearous was the daughter of Mrs. Catherine Yearous of Giard, and was born Feb. 4th, 1877. On Feb. 4th, 1893 she was united in marriage to Will J. Allert, settling on a farm east of Giard, where they have since resided. Mrs. Allert was a faithful and consistent member of the M.E. church during the past sixteen years. The church has lost a faithful worker, Christianity a champion. Death had no terror for her. She was a Christian and knew that what we call death is but the opening of the golden gates that lead to everlasting joy, and that death is simply eternal life. Mrs. Allert was beloved and respected by all who knew her, and made many warm friends by her genial, whole-souled disposition. She was ever ready to lend assistance to those in distress and her bright, cheery presence made her a favorite wherever she went. The bereft family have the sympathy of the entire community in their loss. Besides the husband, a daughter six years old, and an infant daughter two months old, a mother, three sisters and one brother, besides a wide circle of friends remain to mourn her sad and untimely death.
Funeral services were held from her late residence and at the M.E. church conducted by Rev. Hartke and Rev. Schierman. Interment in the Giard cemetery.
