David Settlemuir was born May 14th, 1821, and was united in marriage to Margaret Hunter Nov. 18th, 1852. To this couple five children were born, three daughters and two sons, all of whom are living, with the exception of Amanda and Margaret. Jefferson and Adison Settlemuir, who live in Aububon (Audubon) county, Iowa, and Mrs. Chas. Oldfather, living near Volga, whom with their mother are left to mourn the loss of a loving husband and father. In the year 1855 Mr. and Mrs. Settlemuir came to Wisconsin where they resided for about a year. From Wisconsin they came to Clayton county, Iowa, where they have ever since made their home. Deceased made a public profession of his faith by uniting with the Christian church about seven years ago, and remained faithful to his profession until his death, July 2nd, 1901, having lived 80 years, 1 month and 17 days.
