Elkader Argus, Wed., 25 Dec. 1901.
While sitting in a chair at Hotel Bayless, conversing with friends, the summons of death came to Henry W. Hetzmann at 10:45 Friday morning and in a few minutes he was a corpse. Henry had been in poor health for nearly a year past suffering from heart trouble. Last month he visited Chicago in search of relief but little hope was extended by physicians. His friends knew that he might be called away at any time but all were shocked at the sudden summons. But a few minutes before he had remarked that he was feeling very well.
Mr. Hetzmann was born July 25th, 1861, in Elizabeth, New Jersey, and spent most of his life there. In March, 1896, he came to Elkader and engaged in stock buying and has since clerked for Bayless & Oehring and later until forced to give up work for Gilje & Reinecke. He was an intelligent man, well posted on current events and a member of the Second Presbyterian Church of Elizabeth. While living here he has been a regular attendant at the Congregational church and contributed to its support.
Of his family there are living in New Jersey, his mother, two brothers, and one sister; in this township, a sister, Mrs. W. H. Leonard. Funeral services were held Saturday morning at the Congregational church, Rev. Baxter officiating, after which the remains were sent to Elizabeth for interment, accompanied by W. H. Leonard.
