Austin Lymon Lamphier was born August 6, 1872, at Volga City, Iowa, son of Betsy Jane Page and Lymon Monroy Lamphier. He was baptized and joined the Church of Christ in the year of 1893.
On Aug. 28, 1902, he was married to Edith Pearl Phillips. To this union one son, Virgil, was born. His wife died April 26, 1905.
On Feb. 12, 1906, he was married to Sarah Ann Wooner. To this union five children were born: Clay of LaPorte City, Iowa; Theodore of Elkader; Herman and Debbie of Strawberry Point, and Mrs. Marjorie Leazenby of Madison, Wis. He also raised one foster son, Francis Rankin of Des Moines, Iowa.
He died at the McGregor Hospital, where he had been a patient since July, 1958, on Feb. 4, 1959, at the age of 86 years, five months and 28 days.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Sarah Ann, his son, Virgil, four brothers and four sisters. He is survived by four sons, one foster son, one daughter, two brothers, Oscar of Oelwein and Morris of Volga City, 20 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Interment was in the Hillcrest cemetery at Volga.
