Clayton County Register, Thur., 19 Feb. 1959.

Thomas J., eldest son of John and Rachel Olson, was born May 14, 1874, in Marion Township, Clayton County, on a farm east of Elgin, where he resided until his death on Feb. 6, 1959, at the age of 84.

Mr. Olson was baptized and confirmed in the Marion Lutheran Church at Gunder. For a number of years he served on the church council and various committees in this community.

On June 24, 1894, he was married to Anna Marie Olson. Mr. and Mrs. Olson celebrated their silver, golden, and last June their 64th, wedding anniversaries.

Mr. Olson suffered several strokes during the past years and since the last stroke over two years ago he has been bedfast. He was a person who suffered very patiently. However, the visits from the many friends made the time go much faster and kept his spirits high until his death.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, two sisters, two sons and one grandson.

He is survived by his wife, two sisters, Mrs. John Olson of Seattle, Wash., and Mrs. Conrad Reinhardt of Fountain, Minn.; one brother, Adolph of Clermont; one aunt, Mrs. Anna Halverson of Lake Mills; two sons, Henry, Elgin, and John, Lansing; four daughters, Mrs. Harlan Henkes (Ruby), Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Herold Skarshoug (Agnes), Ames, Mrs. Walde Embretson (Myrtle, St. Olaf, and Selma Groth, Elgin; 17 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, besides a number of nieces and nephews and many other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services, conducted by Pastor Bruce Boyce, were held Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 10, at the Marion Lutheran Church at Gunder. Casket bearers were nephews, Myron and Joe Houg, Clarence and Millard Rear, Harry Henkes, and Kenneth Olson.
