Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 24, for Hale Corlett at St. John Lutheran Church, Farmersburg, at 1:30 p.m., with the Rev. R. H. Steege officiating. Burial was at the Giard cemetery.
Pall bearers were: J. J. Mathews, Orval Tielbar, Arno Henning, Herbert Zurcher, Lorado Lenth, and Herbert Thoreson. Honorary pallbearers were: James Mathews, Carl Gall, Wm. Fuhrman, Fritze Mueller, and Fred Schultz. Mrs. Bernice Amundson had charge of the flowers.
Hale Corlett, son of Frank and Mary L. Hill Corlett, was born Jul. 22, 1887, in Farmersburg Township, Clayton County, Iowa, and died Jan. 21, 1959, from cancer, having been ill since July, 1958.
He received his schooling at the Hawkeye and McGregor schools and Iowa State College, Ames.
He was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church, Farmersburg, and the Masonic Lodge.
Jan. 11, 1911, he was married to Emma Kaiser at the parsonage of St. Peter Lutheran Church, Garnavillo. After their marriage they lived on a farm near Froelich, where Eugene Miller now lives, then they moved to the old Corlett farm where LuVern Krambeer now lives. In 1920 they moved to the present Corlett farm and in 1946 moved to their home in Farmersburg.
After Mr. Corlett retired from farming he went into the insurance business.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mattie Corlett.
He is survived by his wife and four children: Earle, Castalia; Robert and Hale Jr., Farmersburg; and Mrs. Martin (Kathryn) K_____, Cedar Rapids; 11 grandchildren; nine brothers and sisters: Raymond and John Corlett, McGregor; Mrs. Mary Leas, Cleveland, Ohio; Dr. Donald Corlett, Seattle, Wash.; E____ Corlett, Springfield, Mo.; Mrs. Helen Moody, Oakland, Calif.; Ralph Corlett, Vanita, Okla.; James Corlett, Lubbock, Texas; and Mrs. Frances Beard, Tulsa, Okla.
