Funeral services for Miss Josephine Friend, 73, were at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon at the Congregational Church in Elkader. Burial was in the East Side cemetery. The Rev. George Richter, pastor, officiated.

Josephine Florence Friend, daughter of John and Katherine Refle Friend, was born Jan. 3, 1886, in Elkader, and died at the home of her sister, Mrs. Lyle Bean, at Kansas City, Mo., Jan. 16, 1959, at the age of 73 years.

She spent her early life in Elkader, attending the Elkader high school, and was employed for several years as an accountant at Kramer's market and the Dittmer Motor Co.

After the death of her mother she moved to Des Moines, where she was employed at the Harbach funeral home. Then she moved to Chicago, where she worked until her health failed.

She was preceded in death by her mother, father, and brothers Otto, Harry and Ray, and is survived by her sister Mayme of Kansas City, Mo., and brother, Frank, of Elmhurst, Ill.; also sisters-in-law, Mrs. Ray Friend, Los Angeles, Calif.; Mrs. Harry Friend, New Hampton; and Mrs. Frank Friend, Elmhurst, Ill.

Those attending from out of town were: Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Refle and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Refle, Littleport; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Menges and Ester Menges, Arlington; Mrs. Harry Friend, New Hampton; Mrs. Ray Friend, Los Angeles; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Friend, Elmhurst, Ill.; Miss Lou Moor, Chicago; Dan Raftis, Oelwein; and Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Bean, Kansas City, Mo.
