Anton Christian Peterson, son of Peter N. and Mary Elizabeth Peterson, was born at Hartley, Iowa, June 14, 1897, and died at 3:40 p.m. Wednesday, Jan 14, at the University Hospitals, Iowa City, at the age of 61 years and 7 months.

He was baptized by the Rev. F. W. G___ at Hartley on Dec 2_, 1897. He was confirmed in the Norway Lutheran Church at St. Olaf. It was in Wagner Township that he attended rural schools and spent his entire life except for the first two years near Hartley.

On Jan. 11, 1922, he was married to Alma Johnson, and to this marriage two children were born, Arlene (Mrs. Russell Leeman) and Norman, both of St. Olaf.

Mr. Peterson farmed on four farms in his lifetime, all in Wagner Township. He had served his church on the pledge board.

Besides his wife and children, Anton is survived by his mother, Mary, his three brothers, Phelman and Orville, St. Olaf, and Melvin, Frankville; seven grandchildren, several aunts and uncles, many cousins, six nieces and six nephews, and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 17, from the Schutte funeral home to the Norway Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Bruce Boyce officiating. Burial was made in the adjoining cemetery.

Pallbearers were Vern Rugland, Fred Rugland, Harrison Wold, Walde Embretson, Ervin Rugland, and Leslie Halverson.

Those attending the funeral from a distance were: Mr. and Mrs. Louie Martie, Lyle, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Baumeister and Mrs. Ernest Mengle, Hartley; Alberta Peters, Spencer; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Baumeister and Mr. and Mrs. Willie Baumeister, Everly; Mr. and Mrs. Gust Peterson, Marquette, Mich.; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Leeman and Mrs. Oliver Peterson, Guttenberg; Mr. and Mrs. Paul Peterson, Oelwein; Mr. and Mrs. Be____ Juvik and family, Harpers Ferry.
