Mrs. E. C. Becker, 73, died Saturday, Jan. 3, 1959, at the Moser nursing home at Strawberry Point, following a long illness.

She was the former Lela Charlotte Kuempel, only child of Henry and Mathilda Gaulke Kuempel, born March 12, 1885, at Strawberry Point, where she was baptized. She spent her childhood with her parents at Mederville. She attended school at Clayton.

On June 25, 1902, she was married to Ewald C. Becker. They farmed in Clayton County until March, 1915, when they moved to Volga.

Since December, 1954, Mrs. Becker was confined at the Moser nursing home due to illness which required nursing care.

Her husband preceded her in April, 1954, and was also buried from St. Paul's Lutheran Church by its first pastor, the Rev. William Gebhard. Mr. and Mrs. Becker were instructed in the Lutheran faith and confirmed in the St. Sebald Lutheran Church May 12, 1940, by the Rev. Paul Eilers. When the St. Paul's Church was organized in Volga, they transferred their membership here.

Mrs. Becker was a member of the Royal Neighbor lodge at Volga.

Surviving are two sons, Leo Becker, Volga, and Vallie Becker, Colfax, Calif.; one daughter, Mrs. Harold (Dorothy) Lau, Guttenberg; one grandson, Lee Becker, Colfax, Calif.; and other relatives.

Services were held Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the St. Paul Lutheran Church. The Rev. H. Cronrath, pastor, had charge of the service. Music was provided by Mrs. F. P. Gernand, organist, and Mrs. Leland Every, Mrs. Roy Rinkert, Mrs. Vernon Wilker and Miss LaVila Berger, Vocalists.

Burial was in Hill Crest cemetery.

Casket bearers were Roy C. Benington, Floyd Dittmer, Fred Gernand, Randall Borden, Howard Taylor and Roy Candee.
