Frank J Schultz, long-time resident of Clayton, died Dec. 24 at 8:30 a.m. at his home here, at the age of 77 years, 1 month and 16 days.
Funeral services were held at the Tuecke Funeral Home and St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Garnavillo Friday afternoon, Dec. 26, with burial at the Garnavillo cemetery. Rev. Pannkuk officiated. Pallbearers were: Clyde Fischer, Forrest Fischer, Lyle Fischer, Victor Fisher, Ray Dryer, and Dean Jones.
Frank J. Schultz was the youngest of six children born to Herman A. Schultz and Elizabeth Massow at Kletzke, Germany, on Nov. 8, 1881. He came to the United States with his parents at the age of two years, and they settled in Garnavillo.
On May 22, 1907, he was married to Alma M. A. Schumacher in Garnavillo by the Rev. K. Brown. Thirteen children were born to this marriage, four of whom preceded him in death. Those still living are: Mrs. John D. Franklin (Marie), Belle Plaine; Mrs. Oscar Heeger (Dorothy), Clayton; William, Cedar Rapids; Mrs. Dave Vickory (Arlene), Chenoa, Ill.; Mrs. Carl S. Bohn (Norma), Encinitas, Calif.; Arnold, Clayton; Charles and Lawrence, Dubuque; and John, Clayton. He is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Adelia Sterns and Mrs. Ella Hook, both of California, 22 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Mr. Schultz had lived his entire life in the Garnavillo-Clayton vicinity, the last 43 years in Clayton. He had farmed, clerked in the John Ries mercantile store, worked on the railroad and been a watchman at the Clayton silica mine. He also served as a deacon of the Peace Lutheran Church here for many years.
In April of 1956 he underwent major surgery and was in ill health since then.
In May of 1957 he and his wife celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.
Out-of-town relatives and friends who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Schumacher, Guttenberg; Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Wilke and John and Mr. and Mrs. Carlisle Beekman, Charles City; Mr. and Mrs. Tom Vickory, Postville; Will Russow and Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Robinson, Dubuque; and Robert Ries, Marquette.
