Henry John Reimer, the son of Carl Reimer and his wife Marie, nee Spiser, was born June 3, 1874, in Volga township, and died at his home in Elkader, Dec. 23, 1958, at the age of 84 years, six months and 20 days.

Mr. Reimer had been in failing health since last August, but was confined to his home only for the past several weeks. He was a lifelong resident of Clayton County. His chosen work was farming. He had made his home in Elkader since the year 1916, but up until his recent illness went out to his farm daily with his son Orlan, who has been operating the farm for a number of years.

Mr. Reimer was baptized and confirmed in the St. Paul Lutheran Church at Garnavillo. While living in Elkader he became a member of Peace Evangelical and Reformed Church.

He was united in marriage on Nov. 6, 1919, at West Union, to Lucy Mueller of Read township.

Besides his wife he is survived by his eight children: Florence (Mrs. Virgil Drengberg), Los Angeles, Calif., Marie (Mrs. Ted Morris), Des Moines, Dorothy (Mrs. Don Walker), Los Angeles, Calif., Bertha (Mrs. Chas. Lark), Wichita, Kan., Louise (Mrs. Gene Saye), Sacramento, Calif., M/Sgt. Harold, Jacksonville, N.C., Harlan and Orlan, Elkader; five grandchildren: two brothers and a sister, Charles Reimer, Wm. C. Reimer and Mrs. Lena Sadewasser, all of Elkader.

Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 26, 1958, at 2 p.m. at the Peace E. & R. church with the Rev. Paul Kitterer officiating. Burial was at the Garnavillo cemetery.
