Funeral services for Walter H. Fredrick, 64, were held at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Strawberry Point Thursday afternoon, March 19, with the Rev. Paul Bauer officiating. Burial was in the Strawberry Point cemetery.
Walter Henry August Fredrick was born at Strawberry Point July 4, 1894, the son of John and Elizabeth Mueller Fredrick. He received an eighth grade education and on Dec. 6, 1917, was married to Bertha Imlau at Strawberry Point. The couple farmed northwest of Strawberry Point until retiring to their home in town about eight years ago. Mr. Fredrick had suffered from a heart condition for some time but had been moderately active until the day of his death. He died at his home Tuesday, March 17.
Mr. Fredrick served in the army in world War I and only last week was awarded a 40-year membership pin by the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife; two children, Walter Fredrick Jr., superintendent of the Garnavillo school system, and Evelyn (Mrs. Judson Elliot) of Strawberry Point; 11 grandchildren; three sisters and four brothers. The sisters are Mrs. Ed Fuelner, Mrs. Amelia Tracy and Mrs. Fred Nodurft, all of Strawberry Point, and the brothers are Louie, George and Elmer Fredrick of Strawberry Point and John Fredrick of Arlingson. His parents, a half-sister and a grandchild preceded him in death.
