Funeral services were held Monday, April 27, 1959, at 2 p.m. at the Witt Chapel for William C. Ortman. The Rev. Paul Kitterer officiated and burial was at Mederville.
Pallbearers were: George Hakert, James Leonard, Stephen Leonard, Harold Ehrhardt, Milton Kramer and Harley Gentz.
William C. Ortman, son of Henry and Sophia Ortman, was born in Volga Township, Clayton County, Iowa, January 8, 1876, and died at the McGregor hospital April 24, 1959, from a stroke suffered two days before.
He received his education in the rural school, was baptized and confirmed in St. John's Evangelical and Reformed Church, Garber.
He never married and was a carpenter by trade.
Mr. Ortman had made his home with his nephew and niece, Mr. and Mrs. Leland Lange, in Cox Creek Township since 1937.
He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by one brother, Karl Ortman, Littleport; two sisters, Minnie Lange, Strawberry Point, and Ilda Gifford, Dubuque.
Relatives who attended the funeral from a distance were: Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Gifford, Dubuque; Mr. and Mrs. Milton Lange, Jefferson; Louella Lange, Ames; and Mrs. Clara Ortman, Cedar Rapids.
