Mrs. Amanda Louise Wikan died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Keith Robinson, at Elkader Friday morning, April 24. She had been in ill health for 20 years and bedfast for the last 13 years.
She was the daughter of the late Louis and Amelia Wagner Meisner and was born in Boardman Township, Clayton County, Iowa, April28, 1889. At the time of her death she had reached the age of 69 years, 11 months and 27 days.
On March 20, 1912, she was married to Halvor H. Wikan at the home of her parents in Wagner Township. Ten children, five sons and five daughters, were born to this union.
She was a member of the Highland Lutheran Church.
Mrs. Wikan spent most of her life in and around Clayton with the exception of six years spent at Decorah with her daughters. In December, 1955, she returned to Elkader and made her home with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Keith Robinson, where she was cared for until her sudden death early Friday morning.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, April 27, at 2 o'clock at the Highland Lutheran Church, the Rev. Dennis Stutrud officiating. Miss Barbara Kuehl, Oregon, Ill., a granddaughter, was vocalist. Interment was made in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were four nephews, Harold, Francis, Arthur and Realto Meisner.
Mrs. Wikan is survived by eight children: Mrs. Herman (Victoria) Stendel, Waukon; Harold Wikan, Decorah; Mrs. Edward (Phyllis) Kuehl, Elkader; Laurence Wikan, Long Island, N.Y.; Robert Wikan, LaCrosse, Wis.; Mrs. Tilman (Mary) Hill, Decorah; Mrs. Keith (Helen) Robinson, Elkader; and John Wikan, Decorah; 35 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren; four brothers, William of Strawberry Point, Louis of Elkader, Ben of Decorah and Ernest of Marshalltown, besides other relatives and friends. Her husband, two children, Edwin and Amelia, and her parents preceded her in death.
