David H. Whetstone, 81, retired carpenter from Strawberry Point, died Saturday, Sept. 5, at 2:15 p.m. at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Earl Sincox, of Apple River, Ill. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 8, at the Gill Chapel in Strawberry Point with interment in the Strawberry Point cemetery.
Born March 15, 1878, at Lewiston, Minn., he was the son of George and Maria Jane (Stackhouse) Whetstone. He was married to Ollie Brandenburg of Lodomillo Township on Dec. 23, 1902, and made his home here until eight days ago when he went to stay with his daughter. Death was attributed to a heart attack.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, a twin brother, Charles, and two sisters, Mrs. Nancy Schmidt and Mrs. Esther Denzer.
Survivors include his two daughters, Mrs. Clark (Lucinda) Beagle of Oskaloosa, and Mrs. Earl (Velma) Sincox of Apple River, Ill.; two grandchildren, Sandra Jane and Kathryn Ann Sincox of Apple River; three brothers, John Whetstone of Stockton, Minn., and Lawrence and Cecil, both of Winona, Minn.; and one sister, Mrs. Mae Schmidt, also of Winona.
Mr. Whetstone was a member of the Church of the Brethren, had a rural education and was interested in hunting, fishing and cabinet work.
