Clayton County Register, Thur., 17 Sept. 1959.

Funeral services were held Tuesday morning, Sept. 15, for John C. Zapf of Mederville. Services were held from the Witt Funeral Home in Elkader at 8:45 o'clock to Sacred Heart Church in Littleport at 9:30, with the Rev. Joseph Kissling officiating. Burial was in the Sacred Heart cemetery at Littleport. Pallbearers were Lowell Zapf, Otto Schmelzer, Stephen Leonard, William Refle, Martin Hubbard and Louis Winch.

Mr. Zapf died Saturday, Sept. 12, at Xavier Hospital in Dubuque. He was born March 24, 1885, at Elkport.

In April, 1907, he was married to Estella Berns of Elkport. The couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary two years ago.

Mr. Zapf is survived by his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Realto Gusta, Davenport, and Mrs. Harold Nading, Littleport, and three sons, Janarius and Romanus, Littleport, and Bernard, Mederville, and two brothers, Hubert, Garnavillo, and Albert, Guttenberg.
