Sarah M. Phillips was born June 2, 1832, in Carroll Co., Ohio. She was married there in 1851 to Jacob Sawvel with whom she spent nearly 49 years of married life. In the fall of 1853 they came west and located near McGregor, where they have made their home until very recently.
Eleven children were born to them, 6 sons and five daughters, eight of whom, with the husband and father remain to mourn the loss of faithful wife and mother. Three daughters preceded her to the eternal world. Thirty-six grand children are living, six are dead, and there are six great grand children.
In the spring of 1862 she was born again in Christ Jesus, and with her husband, was baptized and united with the Baptist church, of which they have been members for over 37 years.
She was of a mild and gentle disposition, and always ready to help in any good work.
Last Friday evening, Sept. 22, at about 7 o'clock, after a number of years of poor health and much suffering, the Master said, "It is enough, come up higher." The grim messenger stole in quietly and took her as in a sleep. She is with her Saviour and with the saints around the great white throne, singing praise to his name.
"Blessed are the dead, who die in the Lord, from hence forth; Yea, said the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors, and their works do follow them."
