Boyce Hansel, the son of John and Jennie Grace Hansel, was born Aug. 25, 1891, at Garber, and died at the University Hospital at Iowa City Oct. 28 at the age of 68 years, two months and three days.
Mr. Hansel spent his entire life in Clayton County. He received his education in the rural school and then farmed until 1949, when he moved to Elkport, where he had a garage for four years.
Mr. Hansel had been in failing health for a number of years. He contracted pneumonia a week ago and was taken to the hospital in Iowa City last Saturday.
He was married Nov. 18, 1914, at Garber, to Clara Belle Shaw. Five children were born to this union: Donald of Elkport, Stanley of Elkader, Leland of Elkport, Bernadine, Mrs. Robert Johnson, and Pearl, Mrs. Eldon Heer, both of Dubuque.
He is survived by his wife and children, 13 grandchildren, and the following sisters and brothers: Mrs. Mamie Berdenour of Colesburg, Cecil, Ralph and Dale of Garber, Mrs. Frank Morley of Edgewood, and Pauline, Mrs. Clark Gull of Colesburg; also nephews and nieces. A brother and sister preceded him in death.
Services were held at the St. John's Church, Garber, Saturday, Oct. 31, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Paul Kitterer officiating. Burial was at the Hansel cemetery, Garber.
